Newly named New Era Cap President Bruce Popko previously served as COO for Pegula Sports and Entertainment and made investments in Buffalo through Gioia Capital.
New Era Cap announced a shakeup today that will see two familiar names elevate to top leadership roles at the company.
Bruce Popko was named president of the $2 billion headwear and apparel company, while Lorenz Gan was named chief operating officer.
Popko has held a number of executive roles across sports and media, including a stint as chief operating officer of Pegula Sports & Entertainment. He previously served as New Era's senior VP of global licensing and business development.
Gan was promoted from chief digital and information officer.
At the same time, President Jim Patterson, North American General Manager Steve Gallo and Vice President of Global Supply Chain Josh Creasman will leave the company effective today.
In a news release, New Era Chief Executive Officer Chris Koch said the newly appointed executives have demonstrated the experience and leadership needed to help New Era build on its market position. The moves take place following the successful integration of the '47 brand, acquired in August 2024.
“With ’47 now fully integrated into our global business, I look forward to strategizing with this new team and finding innovative ways to embrace our heritage and deliver for our partners, employees, customers, and investors,” he said.
According to the New Era release:
New Era enters this next stage with strong momentum, a clear strategy, and an experienced leadership team. Following the successful integration of '47 and continued growth across its core businesses – having achieved $2 billion in annual revenue within the last year – the company is well-positioned to scale its global brand, accelerate e-commerce, further leverage digital capabilities, and expand its apparel platform with investments to drive product innovation.
Today, with an expansive portfolio of global licenses, the addition of apparel and accessories lines, and a 1,000+ worldwide retail store network, the brand is a market leader rooted in sports and an influencer of street and lifestyle culture around the world. Headquartered in Buffalo, NY, New Era products are sold in more than 125 countries.
