“The moment I screamed ‘Go Sabres’ at the Pope": and other memorable Pitch Your Buffalo submissions

Pitch Your Buffalo celebrates the people who live, work and build their lives in the 716. From lifelong Buffalonians to newcomers discovering it for the first time, every submission adds another voice to the story of Buffalo.

43North’s Pitch Your Buffalo campaign continues to surface humorous and heartwarming stories about Western New Yorkers.

You can read them all, submit your own, and visit the crew at the upcoming Taste of Buffalo.

As the campaign rolls along, Series B pulled out five memorable submissions…

Emily: The moment I screamed Go Sabres at the Pope

"Go Bills" " Go Sabres" terms that mean the same thing as hey, goodbye, love you, god bless, see you soon, etc. These are also the words I decided to yell at the Pope in Vatican City last month.

During the Sabres playoff stint I found myself in Rome in the middle of Vatican City, while the Pope mobile is driving around blessing babies and answering prayers, I decide to scream, "Go Sabres" at the Pope. A reminder that you can take the girl out of Buffalo but not Buffalo out of the girl.

I am blessed to be a part of a city filled with love."

Kimberly LaRussa: Founder of Sweet Buffalo

"Hi! I'm Kimberly LaRussa from Sweet Buffalo. We are a good news digital media company whose mission is to help children, families, nonprofits and animals. This year we are celebrating 10 years of sharing the good in Buffalo!

For 10 years we've used our good news platform to uplift our community and to help children and families, share the good work nonprofits are doing in the community and help animals get adopted.

You can watch our Sweet Buffalo stories on WIVB News 4 on the CW23 on Monday nights and every Thursday on Daytime Buffalo on News 4.

Although we have been around for 10 years, not everyone knows about us and we want to change that because the more people know about Sweet Buffalo the more people and animals we can help, and the more lives we can positively impact.

There is no place like the City of Good Neighbors and we want to showcase that!"

Abigail Lee: The 716 Support System

"I have been able to take a small idea in my backyard 10 years ago to a full blown business, and only for the sole fact that Buffalo has supported me tenfold. I don’t think I would be able to do this in any other city and it become what it is today. I owe everything to the 716 and the people that make it home!"

Jade Wright: Camp B-U ("be-urself")

Our youth! "If we take care of the youth, they take care of us."

Camp B-U is a non profit organization, catering to all youth ages 7-17, with the focus of the beauty and barber industry. Our hope for our city is to give young people a chance to lead them into a professional future.

While not all youth are into blue collar, sports or performance, Camp B-U recognizes this and gives young people the foundational career exploration experience of becoming a licensed professional, while putting their creative hands to use. With the skills of Beauty, barbering, personal care, and life essentials, our youth are destined to succeed, with consistent support along the way! We offer inclusive, hands-on workforce programming in a safe, brave space to be B-U, "be-urself".

The youth is our best kept secret in Buffalo!

Michael Jaczewski: 17 for 17 tour

Here’s the long version ……

This season, we will be traveling to all 17 Bills games, home and away, raising money for children's hospitals.

17 Weeks.

17 Games.

One Epic Season of Giving

This season, we’re embarking on an incredible journey: traveling to all 17 Buffalo Bills games (home and away) across the country in our one-of-a-kind custom made, Bills-themed Ford Bronco. As lifelong Bills fans, we know the power of community and generosity—qualities that have defined our fanbase, especially through efforts like the Patricia Allen Fund at Buffalo Children’s Hospital. Now, we want to take that same spirit on the road, acting as Buffalo fan ambassadors in every city the Bills play.

Each week, we’ll be rallying support from Bills fans and locals alike, encouraging donations to the children’s hospital in the city where the game is played. All funds raised that week will go directly to that hospital, allowing them to use the donations where they’re needed most—whether for medical supplies, patient support, or special programs. We trust each hospital to make the biggest impact possible for their community’s kids.

We believe that sports can bring people together, even in times when our country feels divided. If fans of another team can welcome us into their city and join us in supporting children in need, then surely we can all set aside our differences and root for recovery and hope.

Hey Bills Fans, let’s show the nation just how much we care! Please join us in spreading kindness, unity, and support for children’s hospitals across the country. Together, we can make a real difference—one city, one game, and one child at a time. GO BILLS!
