Press release: Buffalo startup bringing K-12 music education into the real world

Zealot Interactive's Build-A-Band course and platform was created after extensive demand from U.S. high schools. Its first local client, Springville Griffith Institute, will onboard the product in the coming semster.

Press release:

A new program at Springville High School will help music students take their musical education into the real world, teaching valuable skills like music production, music promotion, and songwriting.

Build-A-Band Creative Music Production, a course and platform by music education company Zealot Interactive, based in Buffalo, NY, covers four core tenets of musical skills: playing music as a group, music composition, utilizing industry-standard tools for recording music, and preparing a plan to promote and release music. Students work together to write, record, produce, and release their own original compositions.

“The goal of the program is to teach students real-life skills they can use to continue making music post-graduation and firmly incorporate music into their lives,” Zealot Interactive CEO Shaun Masavage said. “We’re impressed and encouraged by Springville’s emphasis on music education and are excited to have our program in the hands of their students.”

In addition to a full curriculum of materials and media through the Zealot Interactive software platform, the program includes video testimonials from local Buffalo area professional musicians, discussing topics ranging from how to handle disagreements between band members to how to balance working a full-time job and making music.

The program fully complies with New York and national music standards, but also qualifies as Career & Technical Education (CTE) given its curriculum areas teaching how to use a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) and emphasis on musical career preparation.

Benjamin Higgins, Technology Coordinator for Springville-Griffith Institute (SGI) in Springville, NY says “I have overseen the integration of these systems into our educational infrastructure with remarkable results. At SGI, we have successfully designed a cutting-edge modern band studio centered around the Zealot Interactive products and applications. This unique setup provides our students with a dynamic environment where they can explore both individualized music production and engaging small group band activities.”
