The snow-tech startup relocating to Buffalo, New York

Floe is the snow-tech MIT spinout using real-time weather data to manage ice and snow buildup on and around buildings.

“When you have snow management problems, who do you want to call? You want to call the company from Buffalo, New York.”

That mindset is what led Floe founder and CEO David Dellal to apply to 43North.

And now, with a $1 million investment secured via 43North’s Year 11 competition, he’s bringing that idea to market here.

Floe’s hardware/software solution uses real-time weather data to manage ice and snow on and around buildings. The system pumps noncorrosive fluid to areas of need, mitigating ice build up and significantly reducing potential roof damage. Floe is a MIT and Yale spinout.

Dellal (Founder & CEO) has relocated to Buffalo, with Hector Castillo (CTO) expected to follow later in 2026. Floe’s also building out its Buffalo-based team, with two roles currently open: Account Executive and Engineering Lead. A handful of additional hires are planned for the new year.

Floe already serves customers across the Northeast – including some already in Buffalo – and into Canada.  Moving to Buffalo is a strategic step to deepen its regional presence and unlock more business opportunities on both sides of the border. The team is also focused on a marketing revamp.

“We almost want to share that wintery reputation with Buffalo,” said Dellal.

As much as Buffalo is known for the snow that so often places it in the B-block of national news broadcasts, it’s also known for how well it handles moving it. At its core, that’s Floe’s commitment as well.

The city’s strong manufacturing heritage and talent pools were additional motivating factors. Within 2026, the company envisions opening a manufacturing plant in Buffalo – starting small, though built to scale.

Winning 43North marked the company’s first-ever raise of outside capital.

“It’s not about the money,” said Dellal. “We can get money from other investors. It’s about the ecosystem in Buffalo.”
